About
Safeguarding and Ethics
Pause and Parent supports parents and caregivers with practical, developmentally informed guidance. Safeguarding sits at the centre of this work. Children deserve safety, dignity, and protection from harm. The approach promotes firm boundaries without fear, force, humiliation, or emotional withdrawal. Physical punishment is not supported.
Confidentiality
1 to 1 coaching is confidential. Information shared is kept private and only the details needed to provide support are collected. Information is not shared with third parties without consent, except where disclosure is required by law, or where it is necessary to protect a child or vulnerable person.
Limits to confidentiality
Confidentiality has limits. Where there is reason to believe a child or vulnerable person is at risk of harm, or where abuse, neglect, exploitation, or a serious safeguarding concern is disclosed, the priority becomes safety. In these circumstances, urgent help may be recommended and relevant information may need to be shared with appropriate services. Wherever possible, this will be handled transparently, unless doing so would increase risk.
Scope of support
Pause and Parent provides education and coaching. It is not therapy, medical care, diagnosis, or crisis support. It does not assess or treat mental health conditions and it does not replace clinical services. Where therapeutic or clinical support is needed, signposting and referral to qualified professionals is recommended.
Referrals and urgent support
When specialist assessment or urgent intervention is needed, cases are referred out. This includes concerns about child development that require clinical input, serious aggression that risks injury, safeguarding concerns, domestic abuse, sexual abuse, self harm, suicidal thoughts, or severe parental mental health strain. If anyone is in immediate danger, emergency services or local safeguarding and health services should be contacted without delay.
Abuse disclosures
If abuse is disclosed or suspected, safety comes first. Support focuses on appropriate next steps, which may include contacting safeguarding services, relevant statutory agencies, or specialist organisations, and putting a safety plan in place. Coaching does not investigate abuse. It supports responsible action to protect the child.
Working with schools and organisations
For schools, nurseries, churches, workplaces, and community groups, talks and training provide practical, evidence informed strategies for behaviour, boundaries, regulation, and repair. These sessions are educational and are not therapy for staff, parents, or children. If a safeguarding issue arises within an organisational setting, it should be managed through that organisation's safeguarding policy and the designated safeguarding lead, or the relevant safeguarding structure in that setting.
Communication boundaries
Coaching is not an emergency service. Support between sessions is limited to agreed channels and reasonable response times. If there is immediate risk of harm, contact emergency services or local safeguarding and health services.
Data and session records
Brief notes may be kept to support continuity and quality of care. Notes are stored securely and are not shared without consent, except where safeguarding requires action. If sessions are recorded for client use, this will be stated clearly in advance, with access limited to the client and storage handled securely.
Respect and professionalism
This work is non judgemental and direct. Parents and caregivers are treated with respect. Children are spoken about with care, without shaming labels. The standard is calm authority, clear boundaries, and repair when things go wrong.
